ETF Industry KPIs November 3, 2026

This week’s KPI data overview highlights key metrics and trends shaping the ETF landscape:

  • We only added 10 new listings to our database in the past week but recorded 17 delistings, reducing the total number of funds in our U.S. database to 5,722. The Open:Close ratio (LTM) has plummeted to 4.22, its lowest point since October of last year.
  • Total AUM held steady (-0.1%) at $16.3 Trillion but is still up 24.4% versus the same period last year.
  • While relatively expensive actively-managed ETFs continue to constitute the lion’s share of new listings, within each management style assets tend to flow to the cheapest funds as illustrated by the table below, showing weighted-average expenses at only a fraction of the arithmetic average.

Management Style No. of ETFs Avg. Expenses AUM $Tr Wgt Avg. Expenses
Passive 642 37 bp $9.2 10 bp
Rules-Based 1,574 58 bp $4.8 20 bp
Active 3,505 87 bp $2.3 40 bp
